The Gospel Message
The Bible tells us that God created humanity in a perfect, sinless, untested state where unhindered communion between God and man was enjoyed (Genesis 1-2). However, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, sin eternally separated mankind from God and broke that fellowship (Genesis 3). As a result, sin entered our race and it has affected every person, distorting the image of God that He created us with. No one is able to earn God’s favor or deserve eternal life. Instead, sin earns each one the penalty of death (Romans 3:9-20, 5:12-19).
The Gospel (literally “Good News”), is that though we were incapable, God loved us enough to provide His Son, Jesus Christ to die on the Cross and pay the penalty we deserved as our substitute (Romans 3:21-26, 5:6-8, Ephesians 2:8-9). Therefore, anyone who stops trying to earn God’s favor on their own and places their trust in Jesus’ work on the Cross receives complete forgiveness of their sins and eternal life (John 3:16, Acts 16:30-31, Romans 5:18-21, 8:1-4).
Our salvation immediately restores our fellowship with God, guarantees our future in heaven after death, and we are given the Holy Spirit who empowers and encourages us to daily overcome our sin and live a life that pleases God (John 10:27-30, Romans 8:14-25, Galatians 5:16-26, Ephesians 2:8-10, 5:18-33). Given that our past is forgiven, our present is given purpose, and our future is one of confident hope - all who have trusted Christ as Savior truly have good news to accept and proclaim.
