We go back over 1 Kings 10 in today's sermon - this time with a more critical eye. As successful as Israel is being described in this chapter, there are also a bunch of red flags. And those problem areas reveal just how easy it is to compromise when things are going well.

The road of success is littered with potholes. We would do well to watch out for them the more successful we become. Solomon's reign was marked by great prosperity but he also had to deal with a couple "potholes" that we should be wary of as well.

Junia has been the source of a lot of debate for someone who's seemingly only mentioned in one Bible verse. Upon further inspection, we can learn a lot about her and from her. And as we conclude this series, we discover that she, like many of these misunderstood women of Scripture, is a light that guides us in the way of Christ.

Jesus' well-known interaction with the Samaritan woman in John 4 has been over-sensationalized in some respects. When we look at the story a little closer and take into account the historical world of the Bible, we'll realize the common portrait of a promiscious woman is inaccurate. It's much more likely this woman was a sufferer at the hands of pain and death. Jesus provides her the healing she needs through living water, demonstrating that only he can satisfy our greatest longings.

Vashti, from all we know of history, was probably not a good person. Yet in Esther 1, she's actually a sympathetic figure who is dumped for standing up for herself. She's not a cautionary tale about disobedient wives, rather an example of how God can use all sorts of situations and people to work out his good purposes.
